Staff Reporter

Valentine’s Day is round the corner and the saffron brigade of Bajrang Dal activists are gearing up to act as party-poopers. On the other hand, the youngsters are also ready to observe the cupid’s day enthusiastically.

Bajrang Dal activists have warned the youngsters not to observe the V-Day, but to follow the Indian culture. “We want to tell the young generation that there are 365 days in a year and it is inappropriate to celebrate your love only on a single day,” says Bajrang Dal activist Kamlesh Thakur.

While talking to The Pioneer, Kamlesh further said, “We oppose Valentine’s Day because it comes from the west and we do not want youngsters to adopt western traditions.” Elaborating more about this, Kamlesh said, “Various groups are being formed that would be present at various public places to maintain a strict vigil on the young couples. The teams will also visit parks frequently visited by couples, and while the guys would be handed over to the police, the girls would be taken to their parents who would be warned not to allow their daughters to move around with their partners.”

Kamlesh also informed that Bajrang Dal teams would also stop the late night parties that go on till dawn in hotels or lounges. The National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) has also decided to oppose the acts of Bajrang Dal activists.

The NSUI on the other hand has formed teams to defend the couples in case of harassment. “The decision would be taken on the spot. It is difficult to decide that what would be the step, but yes we would try to keep the atmosphere filled with peace,” said NSUI State secretary and in-charge Bharat Kumar.

He further said, “In my opinion nobody has the right to disturb other’s faith as we celebrate many other festivals on marked dates then why not the Valentine’s Day. Moreover, this day should not be bounded to lover’s relationship. We would give roses to Bajrangis on that day.”

The youngsters make many preparations for this grand day. The shopkeepers have displayed gifts at their shops and notwithstanding with the threats, the youth are shopping for the V-day in huge number.
