Out of the 46 doctors who had gone for election duty only one has returned so far in the District Hospital, causing widespread anguish among patients.
Uninformed patients, especially poor ones from the rural areas who had reached the District Hospital were disappointed and had to return without getting any treatment. There wasn’t a single doctor in the orthopedic department while the OPDs and other departments had only 1 or 2 doctors.
A lady who came to the hospital with her 12-year-old son who was suffering from stomach ache returned without meeting the concerned doctor. She lamented that she had travelled 10 kilometers in vain. An elderly woman from Dabra who is suffering from viral fever said she would not go back till she gets proper treatment.
The situation is similar in the JAH Group of Hospitals too. The staff of the 108 Ambulance had a tough time this morning admitting a patient in the causality ward. The doctor on duty at the causality ward refused to admit the patient citing lack of bandages and other medicines as the reason. The doctor further asked the ambulance staff to get the bandages and medicines from the market.
When the ambulance staff brought the medicines from the market the doctor again refused to admit the patient saying the medicines were not the right ones. The patient was finally admitted after the staff complained to the Additional Superintend of the hospital. The matter was also brought to the notice of BM Sharma, the Divisional Commissioner, who has asked for a report from the Medical Store In charge, Dr Devendra Kushwaha.
It is learnt from sources at the JAH that there is sufficient medicines in the Medical Store of the hospital and it remains an ambiguity as to why the Resident Doctor asked the ambulance staff to get the medicines from the open market.
Speaking to the media persons, BM Sharma, the DC said that this is a serious matter and that he has asked for a full report from the Medical Store In Charge. He added that strict action will be taken against the aberrant medical staff after getting the report. He also said that the patient is currently being treated at the hospital.
