The young children of the Excellence Government School in Morar, Gwalior had a pleasant surprise on Monday when District Magistrate Anurag Chaudhary donned the hat of a teacher and taught the students for close to one hour in the morning. The Collector, a B.Tech graduate from IIT, Kanpur taught them Science subject.

The District Administration has taken the initiative to enhance community, private sector as well as bureaucratic involvement in Government run schools across the district under the aegis of Vidya Dhan Yojana.

In this connection, District Collector Anurag Chaudhary has made an impassioned appeal to citizens, social organisations and businessmen to set apart a little time every week to teach the students of government schools so that these children too can get good education at par with those studying in private schools.

He said that it will be a great service if the literate could pick up the chalk and duster and teach these students for a couple of hours every week. The DM urged the intellectuals of the city, be it government officials, senior citizens, college going students or educated housewives to join the campaign so that the underprivileged children too could get equal opportunities to make a mark in life.

The Collector added that the administration is committed to set up a system where intellectuals teach little children.  He added that as per the system there will be three categories consisting of class 1 to 5, class 6 to 8 and class 9 to 12.

The District Administration has provided a Whatsapp number (8865870275) so that interested people can register their names.  There is also a link on the DM’s Facebook page where people can download the format of the application form. The volunteers are required to give details of their education, preferred category and time that can be set apart.
