Staff Reporter

Government is going to take initiative for healthy body, mind and study of the students of government engineering and polytechnic colleges. For the first time, a six months diploma course in Yoga is being started from the session 2022-23 for the students of 8 engineering and 69 polytechnic colleges of the state.

The Department of Technical Education will conduct this course through Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), which will be free of cost for the students. Under the National Education Policy-2022, now this is a big step in the direction of making engineering colleges also multidisciplinary. Dr. Mohan Sen, Additional Director, Directorate of Technical Education informed that the students will get two credits (marks) in lieu of the said course, for which the department has written to Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV) to make provision.

The intention of the government behind starting yoga courses is that engineering students get stressed about studies, so that they can be free from it. Apart from this, if you remain physically fit, your intellectual development will also be better. The special thing is that if the students want to make a career in yoga apart from engineering, then the above diploma will be helpful in that. Based on this, they can become a yoga trainer by taking further higher degree.

At present, about 15,000 students are registered in 8 engineering colleges of the state, while 35,000 students are registered in 69 polytechnic colleges. The course of Yoga is being implemented for the students of second, third and fourth year in B.Tech degree course and second and third year in diploma.
