Politics of allegations and counter-allegations regarding corruption between the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress have marred the political atmosphere.
It was the turn of the BJP on Saturday. It counter-attacked Congress general secretary and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh over alleged underhand dealings with a builder during his tenure.
State BJP president and MP Nandkumar Singh Chouhan, addressing media persons at the party’s State office at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya campus , alleged that Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP, took crores of rupees from a builder and demanded from the Income Tax (IT) department to take action against him after conducting an inquiry into the matter.
Chouhan said, “This is a serious issue in the interest of the State, the IT department carried out raids at the premises of a noted builder on May 30, 2008 and seized his records including three handwritten diaries. During investigations the builder admitted that all the entries in the diaries are made by him and are authentic.”
Chouhan further said that the said entries are that of his mercantile expenses. In these diaries there are several entries of crores of rupees given to the then CM Digvijay Singh. There is no scope of doubt over these entries, as they are real and the builder has admitted that they are real by all means. All these entries are prior to October 2003 making it indisputably clear that the amounts were paid to Singh as at that time he was the Chief Minister, he added.
He said that some entries are also in the name of Singh’s brother that is serious evidence of corruption. The IT department and other related investigating agencies should seriously look at this issue and should take action, he added.
