Congress general secretary and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has suggested that the Indian Premier league (IPl) organisers should do away with cheerleaders and instead play tunes in praise of lord Ram during T20 matches.
Singh said Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan did not want to give entertainment tax exemption to three IPl matches to be played in Indore next month as he was averse to the idea of cheerleaders in the popular T20 tournament.
Singh a Rajya Sabha parliamentarian while talking to the media persons here on Saturday said, “What exactly is the problem in exempting IPl matches from entertainment taxIJ I have been told that CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was averse to the idea of cheerleaders in the IPl.”
“In this connection, I have a suggestion that tunes praising lord Rama should be played when fours and sixes are hit and a wicket falls instead of roping in cheerleaders,” he added.
“Considering the craze for cricket, the entertainment tax should be relaxed,” Singh said.
Three IPl matches will be played at Holkar Stadium here on April 8, 10 and 20.
About the Congress failure to form Government in Manipur and Goa, the senior Congress leader who is also general secretary in-charge for Goa said his party had emerged as the largest party in assembly polls in these states. Singh alleged that "the BJP with ample money bought the leaders and formed its government in both these states where the due procedure wasn't followed."
