Congress general secretary and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh, who had been trying to implicate Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the infamous MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, was seen helpless here on Wednesday.
The Special Task Force (STF) that is investigating the MPPEB scam had summoned Singh for recording his statements and submitting the documents sustaining his claims regarding involvement of the Chief Minister in the scam, by April 15.
However, instead of appearing before the STF, Singh reached the office of the Special Investigating Team (SIT), which is monitoring the investigation conducted by the STF on the directives of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh.
While talking to mediapersons, Singh said that he was shocked to know from the SIT Chief Justice Chandresh Bhushan that investigation is not the jurisdiction of the SIT. Surprisingly, a couple of months ago, when the SIT members were about to visit New Delhi in connection with the investigation, the High Court had categorically told that SIT has been formed only to monitor the investigation.
News in this regard was published in all the newspapers. In such a situation, Singh's claim that he came to know about this fact only on Wednesday and he was shocked to know this, cannot be believed.
Moreover, the mediapersons were surprised to listen the statement of Singh that the SIT members should resign if they have no powers.
Factually, the SIT has been formed by the High Court to monitor the investigation process. By saying that the SIT members should step down, Singh factually raised his fingers at the High Court, which could be termed as contempt of court.
Unlike every press conference, where he leveled serious allegations against the Chief Minister, this time Singh was seen expressing desperation that the authorities are taking no action on his complaints.
To a query that after having moved to the Supreme Court, High Court, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and SIT, what did he expect from President Pranab Mukherjee, to whom he has decided to approach seeking justice, Singh was speechless, but stated that he would take stern action if nothing comes out.
Health Minister and spokesman of the State Government Narottam Mishra has demanded action against Singh, saying that he has committed contempt of court by demanding the resignation of the SIT members.
