On the backdrop of 66th World Health Day to be observed on Tuesday, studies suggest that chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases and obesity are on a rise because of the sedentary and erratic lifestyle that people lead.

Bhopal-based Senior Nutrition Consultant Amita Singh said the last two decades have seen a drastic change in the lifestyle of people. Everything, from our eating habits to our working habits, has gone through a transformation. Even trying to take out time for exercise is becoming increasingly difficult.

Singh also added that what was really needed to get a step closer to leading a healthy and a wholesome life was to become conscious and to start inculcating small habits, like smart snacking and quick & easy workouts, in our schedule.  The World Health Day poses as the perfect occasion to start making such small, but significant changes to life. “Snacking smart with almonds is a great way to start leading a healthy lifestyle,” Amita Singh concluded.

The World Health Day is acknowledged by various Governments and non-governmental organisations with interests in public health issues, is seen as an opportunity to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year.

Research suggests that almonds can help support a healthy lifestyle in a number of ways including that it make a high satiety food for weight watchers as they are high in fibre. A new study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that study participants consuming 43 grams of dry-roasted, lightly salted almonds every day experienced reduced hunger and improved dietary vitamin E and monounsaturated (“good”) fat intake without increasing body weight.
