DGP: Planning required to curb crimes against children

Staff Reporter
To curb crimes against children and to restrain children from committing crime would require working in a proper and planned manner, said Director General of Police Surendra Sinh during the seminar on ‘legal Rights of Children and Child Abuse’ at Police Training and Research institute (PTRI) on Thursday.
Sinh said that the police should handle the children with exceptional sensitisation. Special drive is conducted for searching the missing children. It is observed that the children found are not able to provide the details of their parents and on the other side, few people come out claiming to be their parents. In such cases, police require to remain highly alert and sensitive towards the children so that they could be handed over to their real parents.
He said that children escape their homes due to high pressure of examinations and results and to understand the emotion of such children parents and teachers should remain aware and active.Rehabilitation programmes and current laws should be used for the crime-ridden and crime victim children sensibly.
Additional Director General of Police (Crime against Women cell) Aruna Mohan Rao said that the children are the most weak and sensitive part of the society. FIR is registered in lost children cases but the fewer number of girls recovered in the missing children cases is worrying. She said that along with IPC, action under Juvenile Justice Act and POSCO should be done.
Archana Sahay of Aarambh institute, former member of Child Commission Vibhanshu Joshi, Deputy Director of WCD, Head of Women Studies Department of Barkatullah University Asha Shukla and Professor Asma Rizwan of People's University were also present at the seminar.
