Despite stern action taken by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the authorities and transfer of two senior officials, the condition of the Hamidia hospital is still on the ventilator as the patients are deprived of medicines and proper treatment.

Hamidia hospital is a State level hospital and associated with Gandhi Medical College (GMC) of Bhopal. This correspondent on Thursday visited the Hamidia hospital to know the ground realities and was baffled to see that the hospital does not even have the medicines of basic ailments like common cold or fever. Moreover, the digital X-ray machine which was installed in the hospital two years back was also found defunct as it has no film to conduct any X-ray.

This correspondent with the ailments of fever associated with cough and cold visited the doctor in emergency ward and the doctor bluntly asked to purchase the medicines from outside and get the blood tested for malaria from private pathology.

There are several touts of the private hospitals freely roaming in the hospital premises trying to lure the patients to their private hospitals.

However, Hamidia Hospital’s Superintendent Dr Deepak Maravi refused to comment on the issue saying he was busy in a meeting.

“This is an open secret about the Hamidia hospital that there are lack of facilities and medicines in the hospital. Hospital does not have MRI machine, CT scan machine and so on. The Government has failed to maintain the hospital, it should allocate sufficient budget for maintaining these facilities. The Government and the district administration should be more serious for the patients and the hospital,” says Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) Secretary Avinash Thakur.

While talking to The Pioneer on Thursday, former JDA president Adarsh Bajpai says, “There are several problems in the Hamidia hospital. lack of medicine or facility is even a trivial issue as sometimes, the doctors have to do the treatment of the patients without gloves using the polythene. The senior officials of the hospital know everything but they are negligent about this situation,” he added. Bajpai further added that the private practice of the doctors should be immediately stopped in order to provide better treatment in the hospital.
