An Air India flight hovered over the Raja Bhoj airport for around 20 minutes on Tuesday morning, as there was low visibility to land due to dense fog.
A major accident was averted as the pilot chose to stay in the sky for several minutes instead of landing the plane.
The flight was coming from Delhi and Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare, Yashodhara Raje Scindia was also on board.
Notably, Raja Bhoj International Airport has the first category of the landing system that is why a flight cannot be landed during the dense foggy conditions. There are second and the third categories of landing system too. These categories of the landing systems are usually installed in the airports which deal with heavy traffic. Second and the third category systems allow the flights to land even in the dense fog.
However, the airport officials say the first category landing system was installed in the Bhopal airport as it deals with less traffic.
Most of the flights came late on Tuesday due to dense fog especially the flights of Air India. The flights arrived 3 to 4 hours late to the Bhopal airport. Even the evening flights also came late for more than one hour.
Meanwhile, the trains coming from the Delhi have arrived 3 to 15 hours late due to fog. The officials of the railways rescheduled various trains due to dense fog while the few trains were also canceled due to fog.
