PNS

The Election Commission of India which swore by taking a prompt and speedy action on the incidences of violation of the election code of conduct in MP which will go to the poll on November 25 next month, has apparently bought some more time to decide the fate of the newly constituted board of directors of the Indore Development Authority which had been reportedly constituted after enforcement of the election code of conduct in Madhya Pradesh few days back.

Talking to the media persons here on Thursday evening at the office of Indore Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Chief Election Commissioner of India, Vinod Zutsi said the Election Commission after going through the complaints, had sought some legal information from the authority to take a final call in this regard.

There were some legal issues and we had sought relevant information from the authority concerned. As this information has been submitted before the Election Commission, we will let you know on the issue soon, Zutsi told media persons without specifying any date.

The Deputy Chief Election Commissioner of India who had an elaborate meeting with the district and police officials of all 15 districts of Indore and Ujjain division, said that he was apparently satisfied with the action being taken by the officials in these districts on issues related to enforcement of the model conduct of conduct and on its preparedness to ensure free and fair polls in their respective district.

He said all district collectors of Indore and Ujjain divisions during their meeting today had informed about compliance of the directives of the Election Commission of India issued on August 27, this year. Replying to a query, Zutsi said as informed by the officials of both the division, only half-a-dozen officials continue to holding their positions in their respective for over three years and in this regard, directives have been issued to the district collectors for transfer of such officials exceeding their tenure of 3 years from their respective district.

The deputy chief election commissioner said that as per the directives of the Supreme Court of India, the electorates of MP will also enjoy the provision choosing none of the above candidates while casting their votes in the ensuing elections. The Election Commission in this regard has issued necessary directives in this regard. Similarly he said unlike previous years, nomination papers of the candidates would be cancelled if they do not fill relevant information in their affidavits.

Zutsi said as MP is surrounded by several states, instructions have been to the state government to hold regular dialogues with the officials of neighbouring states and seal their boundaries with these states so as to prevent entry of any anti-social elements during the poll in MP. He had come across so far, Zutsi said unlike other states, there has been so very less number of cases reporting violation of election code of conduct in MP. The number of such complaints received by the Election Commission in MP is hardly about two dozen.
