Daughters of Jyoti Khare and Janaki, residents of Berkheda in Bhopal are now studying in a good school due to ladli lakshmi Yojana. Jyoti, a widow and visually challenged Janaki both had two daughters each.

Jyoti was not in a position to bear the expenses involved in educating her daughters due to financial stringency. One day she met an Anganwadi worker who told her to get family planning done so that her daughters could avail the benefit of ladli lakshmi Yojana. Jyoti agreed to do so but after her husband’s untimely demise, she became helpless. She still did not lose hope and with the support of the Anganwadi worker, demanded that the condition of family planning should not be imposed on girls in case of death of any parent. Government made changes in the rules of the ladli lakshmi Yojana. And now Jyoti’s daughters are studying in good schools aided by the government.

Visually challenged and financially weak, Janaki was finding it difficult to spend for the education of her daughters. She was under great pressure but that did not deter her. She met Shadab didi at the nearest anganwadi Kendra who informed her about the ladli lakshmi Yojana and suggested that if she wished to avail the benefits of the scheme she should plan her family. Janaki decided to go for family planning following which her daughters are now availing the benefits of the ladli lakshmi Yojana. Jyoti and Janaki are now busy educating their daughters and help them settle in life.
