An online event of Dastangoi will be held on November 22. ‘Dastaan Miyan Aazad Ki’ from Fasana e Aazad will be held live on Zoom.

It is written by Pandit Ratan Nath Sarshar and will be organised by Lucknow Bioscope. It will be performed by Valentina Trivedi and Askari Naqvi

Fasana e Aazad is a collection of Qadeem Lucknow ke Qisse. A nostalgic account of the times of Wajid Ali Shah the last Navab of Awadh. The novel is one of the few written documents of oral history of Awadh in a language most suitable to Dastangoi. It will take audience on a journey of Lucknow and Awadh and offer you the multiple aspects of tehzeeb o zabaan.

Dastaangoi is a years’ old tradition of storytelling. The art was again brought to life in India during the year 2005.

It is to be noted that the word Dastangoi is a compound of two Persian words Dastan and goi which means to tell a Dastan.

Dastans were epics, often oral in nature, which were recited or read aloud and in essence, were like medieval romances everywhere. Telling tales of adventure, magic and warfare, Dastans mapped new worlds and horizons. The hero’s adventures could sometimes parallel the mystic quest, at other times the story narrated a purely profane tale. It was that Rumi’s Masnavi and Arabian Nights both came to contain many stories from the Panchtantra tradition.

The main feature of Dastaangoi is the voice of the artists and the art of voice modulation. It is all about the imagination that all matters in Dastaangoi.
