With law and order situation in curfew-bound Chandan Nagar improving in the last 48 hours, the district administration on Thursday gave a relaxation in curfew in the communally tensed Chandan Nagar twice for two hours each.

The first relaxation in curfew was given for two hours from 9 to 11 am, thereby providing much-needed relief to the locality people. With situation remaining under control during the curfew hours, the administration announced further relaxation in curfew for two hours from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. During the relaxation of curfew only womenfolk and children were allowed to go out of their homes for the purchase of essential commodities like milk, medicines, grocery items and vegetables.

As police made announcement of relaxation of curfew for women and children for two hours in the morning, womenfolk and children of the locality swarmed into the streets of Chandan Nagar to purchase essential commodities like milk, vegetables and grocery items. With the help of Indore Dugdh Sangh, about 14,000 liters of milk were sold in the locality under the strict supervision of police force. Women purchased ration items for their daily needs. And as the relaxation in curfew period came to an end in the morning, womenfolk and children in the locality under strict police vigil rushed back to their homes.

On Thursday the district administration also announced another relaxation in curfew for womenfolk in Chandan Nagar locality for two hours between 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm to further enable them to make purchase of essential commodities. Following review of law and order situation the administration on Wednesday night had decided to give a relaxation in curfew in the locality on Thursday morning for two hours between 9 am to 11 am. However, apparently due to lack of coordination between the district administration and police officials, there was an apparent delay on the part of police officials to announce relaxation in curfew.
