Crowdfunding is no more a new concept for people in India and during the pandemic, it has proven to be a lifeline for thousands of them. Whether it is education, health, or any other crisis, crowdfunding has played a major role in providing financial solutions to their crisis. Aarti Kanojia, a mother of two children, used to work as a trainer for two-wheelers in Mumbai. A few months ago, she met with an unfortunate accident and was suggested not to work anymore on medical grounds. Her husband Rajesh Kanojia works as a compounder in a dispensary at a very low salary. His salary alone was of course insufficient to take the load of the entire family. The accident has caused a major imbalance in the financial aspects of the family, which majorly affected the education of their two children. Both their children received an ultimatum from the school that if their fees are not paid, they cannot continue studying in the school. The worried mother raised a campaign through Filaantro, a well-known crowdfunding platform, and within a short period of time, she successfully raised the fees for one of her children and is very hopeful that the second one will be raised soon. There are many such cases where a crowdfunding platform like Filaantro, has helped people in raising funds in the time of need such as child’s education, medical treatment of a family member or any other financial crisis, where the family cannot afford to take that financial load.
