In a bold move to ease Indore’s traffic woes, officials seized 30 haphazardly parked buses from various parts of the city on Tuesday.
The crackdown follows a Monday meeting where Collector Ashish Singh warned bus operators against obstructing roads by parking outside designated zones. He urged compliance to prevent traffic disruption and ensure road safety.
Acting on the directive, a joint operation was carried out by the district administration, Regional Transport Office (RTO), and traffic police to seize offending vehicles.
Buses parked illegally at Madhumilan Square, Jhabua Tower, Pipliyahana, Ring Road, Teen Imli Square, and Gangwal Bus Stand were thoroughly inspected and seized if found in violation.
RTO Pradeep Sharma said officials also checked for valid documents including fitness certificates, permits, insurance, pollution control, and tax papers. Overloading and fare irregularities were also scrutinised.
Buses lacking papers, breaching permit terms, carrying excess passengers, or parked improperly were impounded and taken to the RTO office for further action.
Authorities have warned that this drive will continue. Bus operators have been urged to operate only from authorised spots or face seizure of their vehicles.
The operation involved SDMs Pradeep Soni, Ajay Bhushan Shukla, Vijay Mandloi, RTO Pradeep Sharma, DCP Supriya Choudhary, tehsildars, and officials from the revenue, police, and transport departments.
