A police constable in Guna district of the State was brutally thrashed by a group of five men for penalising relatives of a local politician.

While the police constable was being punched and kicked right outside the police control room in Guna, several stood idle witnessing the constable being thrashed.

The entire incident began after a police constable in Guna stopped three girls belonging to the family of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) block president Shobha Raghuvanshi. The constable stopped the three girls and fined them for violating traffic rules and riding a scooter without helmets.

After being fined, reports suggest that the girls called their family members after which the husband of BJP block president arrived at the spot with his supporters. The husband of the BJP leader is reported to be named Rajiv Raghuvanshi. After arriving at the spot, a scuffle broke out between Raghuvanshi and the constable after which the constable was pushed to the ground and thrashed by the supporters of Raghuvanshi.

The police constable is reported to be named Ashutosh Tiwari. “12 people barged into the control room where I was. They grabbed me by the collar and started beating me up. My staff saved me. I have bruises,” Tiwari said.

The Guna police have registered two cases of obstructing a government officer from doing his duty and of beating up a government officer on duty. The police have also arrested two supporters of Raghuvanshi in the incident.

Meanwhile, the husband of the BJP leader has claimed that the police has adhered to one side of the story. Raghuvanshi stated that the entire incident began after a heated argument with the police. “The girls called up my brother saying they were being fined for the traffic violation. When we came here, a few words were exchanged with the police and then during the heated argument, they started pushing each other. Then the cops filed a one-sided case,” he said.
