Cong urges SEC to stop opening of AIIMS hosptl

The State Congress has objected to the inauguration timing of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Hospital in Bhopal and the proposed inauguration of an over-bridge at GAD Square near Tajul Masajid. Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman JP Dhanopiya in a letter to State Election Commission here on Monday said, “The process of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections is on at the State capital due to which Model Code of Conduct is in force.

In this situation organising of any Government programme remains prohibited, but we have come to know through media reports that AIIMS Bhopal would be inaugurated on Tuesday while an over-bridge near Tajul Masajid would be inaugurated on January 26. Hence both these programs should immediately be stopped and permission be given to them after February 4, when the election process would be over.”

Dhanopiya further said that we have come to know union minister Sushma Swaraj would inaugurate the AIIMS hospital in Bhopal on Tuesday, January 20. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and other leaders would also remain present on the occasion.  The inauguration during imposition of Model Code of Conduct by the BJP leaders would give an impression that hospital has been established by the BJP, whereas the fact is that this hospital was constructed by the then Congress led UPA government and is already operating. The inauguration at this point of time would adversely affect the election, he added.

He said that the party has also come to know through reliable sources that on instructions of chief minister the district administration is all set to complete the over bridge at GAD crossing to get it inaugurated on January 26. The voting in Bhopal is scheduled on January 31 and the counting would be held on February 4, hence the state government should be stopped from doing this when the Model Code is in effect and should be told to organise these programs after February 4, he added.
