Cong to CM: Speak against Centre's anti-farmer stand

Staff Reporter

The State Congress has urged Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to raise his voice for the peasants of Madhya Pradesh against the anti-farmer decision of the BJP Government at the Centre.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesman KK Mishra in a statement here on Saturday said, “Chief Minister boasts of being farmer’s son and if he is really proud of being a farmer’s son then he should accept this challenge and should come forward in the interest of farmers against the anti-farmer stand of Central Government.”

Mishra further said that the Central Government has requested the State Governments not to give bonus to the farmers on the purchases done from them. Centre in its dictate to the State’s said that the State Governments should purchase farmers produce only at the support price, he added.

He said that it is matter of public interest to know that Central Government decision is to provide profit to which industrial group. Chief Minister should not hesitate to ask this question with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the interest of farmers, he added.

He said that the Central Government has warned the States that if any State provides bonus to farmers on their produce than the Food Corporation of India (FCI) would not be able to purchase much of grains from that State, besides the Centre would not provide subsidy to that States on surplus purchase and distribution.

He said that this decision of the BJP Government would not only deprive farmers from getting proper price of their produce but is also an anti-farmer decision. The MP Government would now not be able to provide bonus to the farmers on their produce and if the Government provides bonus than the Central Government would provide subsidy only on that quantity of grains that is essential for ration and welfare schemes and the State Government would have to bear the financial burden of surplus stock, he added.
