Cong seeks action in Indore, Bhopal land scams

Staff Reporter

The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Tuesday demanded that the lokayukta should lodge First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the alleged land scams in Indore and Bhopal.

After filing a written complaint with the lokayukta officials, leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Satyadev Katare, told reporters here, "The first complaint pertains to 12,600 square feet land in front of the Commissioner's office in Old Secretariat and Pipalner village in the state capital wherein the accused purchased land at a throwaway price."

He alleged that the state's Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam accused Ajay Shankar Mehta and Nitin Mahindra were involved in the land scam. Others named in the complaint include Savita Mehta, Sarla Mahindra and Vinit Mahindra.

He stated that the ruling BJP is not for a CBI probe in the MPPEB scam as it fears that the probe would expose the saffron party's corruption and several high-profile people would be found involved in the scam.

In a second complaint, the Congress claimed that 7.56 acre land out of 10.28 acre belonging to a trust was leased to Narendra Gorani by Kamlendru Singh in collusion with the then Indore tehsildar in violation of rules and despite the High Court's stay in this regard. A loss was caused to the state exchequer by showing the price of land less than government price. He alleged that the accused had the protection of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.

Katare said the Congress had lodged the two complaints with the lokayukta but no FIR was registered.

He demanded that the lokayukta should register an FIR or explain the reason for not doing so.
