Cong for probe panel on EVM tampering

SR

State Congress has taken the largescale cases of tampering in Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) reported during the polling in State Assembly election on Monday seriously and asked the Election Commission (EC) to set up inquiry for the same.

leader of Opposition in the outgoing Assembly of Madhya Pradesh Ajay Singh in a statement here on Tuesday urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the State to take the tampering cases in the EVM seriously and immediately order an inquiry of the same. “A time bound inquiry into the matter should be ordered immediately and report of that should be released before the counting for the ballot of State Assembly polls starts,” Singh added.

Singh further said that the inquiry of the matter is necessary to maintain the reliability of the polling process and the EC. People of the State have all the right to know the reality behind the tampering cases and how the EVM were flashing light only under BJP symbol when the button for the Congress symbol was pressed, why not a single instance of reverse trend was reported, questioned the leader of opposition.

He said that it was feared that the ruling BJP could go to any extent to avoid certain defeat in the Assembly election and the complaints of irregularities in the EVM confirms that the ruling party tried to manipulate the election process with its ill practices.

He said that large scale irregularities in the EVM were reported in Bhopal and other parts of the State. These complaints are serious because in all the cases the voter pressed the Congress symbol while the light was flashed under BJP symbol, while not a single case was reported where BJP symbol was pressed and light was flashed under Congress or any other symbol. This strengthens the belief that the EVMs were tampered with, he added.

The senior Congress leader said that in this election large scale campaigning was done to aware the electorate for voting, to ensure that every voter uses his/her right provision of NOTA was also provided with the aim of cent per cent polling but the complaints regarding tampering of EVMs are big blow in the election process.

He urged the CEO to take cognisance of the reports of the EVM tampering and immediately set up inquiry the report of that should be released before the counting of the ballot starts in State.
