Staff Reporter

Demanding action against the Ministers and leaders for violating code of conduct in the by-elections scheduled in three State Assembly constituencies on Thursday, a Congress delegation met Chief Election Officer and handed over a memorandum alleging violation of Code of Conduct by the ruling BJP.

In the memorandum the Congress has expressed displeasure over the unlawful presence of Ministers and the BJP leaders in Vijayraghavgarh and Bahoriband Assembly constituencies.

In the Vijayraghavgarh and Bahoriband constituencies even after the completion of the time limit of campaigning which ended on August 19 at 5 pm, the presence of voters of the other constituencies is prohibited but the BJP Ministers and leaders were present at houses of the BJP party workers. The unlawful presence of BJP Ministers and leaders in both the constituencies is aimed to garner support for BJP by intimidating the voters and by enticing them was a part of conspiracy.

Police and administration have turned mere spectators in Katni district and have turned a blind eye on the illegal acts of the BJP Ministers and leaders. Ministers of State and BJP leaders are violating the code of conduct but the district election officer is not taking any action against them which has made it impossible to conduct free and fair by elections and the voter would not be able to cast vote without fear.

Demand to conduct free and fair by-elections have been raised in the memorandum.State Congress Vice President Manak Agrawal, General Secretary Chandrika Prasad Diwedi , Chief spokespersons KK Mishra, spokesperson JP Dhanopia and Vibha Patel were in the Congress delegate.
