The State Congress has alleged corruption in the appointment of 17 assistant professors in Jiwaji University Gwalior.

The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief spokesman KK Mishra in a statement here on Thursday said, “The Registrar of Jiwaji University Gwalior Anand Mishra about two years back hand-in-gloves with the then vice-chancellor Mazahir Kidwai made appointment of 17 assistant professors by taking money. All these appointments were also not made as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) criteria.”

Mishra further said that the elder brother of parliamentary affairs minister Narottam Mishra, Anand Mishra is against rules on deputation under influence of his minister brother in the Jiwaji University Gwalior as registrar. Tempering was done with the API numbers of the candidates selected by the registrar, he added.

He said that on getting continuous complaints of irregularities in these appointments the executive council unanimously decided to handover the probe of the same in June 2014 to either STF or the EOW, because money exchanged hands in the appointments. But the current vice chancellor Sangita Sharma under pressure from Registrar Anand Mishra does not sent the information of the executive council to the concerned agencies till now due to that students are indigenous, he added.

He said that the students of the Jiwaji University are sitting on hunger strike since last four days outside the administrative building of the university. The students are demanding that the registrar of the university who is on deputation against norms since last five years should be removed. While large scale irregularities both financial and administrative are going on in the tenure of registrar Mishra since last five years. On earlier occasion also he made appointments of third and fourth grade employees and all those selected for these posts are residents of Datia and Dabra assembly constituencies, he added.
