Cong accuses BJP of not passing benefit to people

Staff Reporter

The State Congress has alleged that the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre and Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP Government in Madhya Pradesh are depriving the people of the State the benefits of fall in international crude price. Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Arun Yadav in a statement here on Saturday said, “BJP Governments both at the Centre and the State are snatching the benefits of fall in prices of diesel and petrol. Ever since the BJP Government came to power in the country, the crude oil prices have rolled down to 58 per cent but the Modi Government instead of passing on the benefits to the people is busy filling its treasury.”

Yadav further said that during the erstwhile Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule, the crude prices were 51 dollar per barrel in 2009 then the diesel used to be Rs30 per litre and petrol was sold at Rs41 per litre. But now when the crude oil prices have reached to an all time low at 46 dollar per barrel then the diesel is sold at Rs57.91 per litre and petrol is sold at Rs68.86 per litre, he added.

He said that the people of Madhya Pradesh are facing double whammy over petrol and diesel prices. On one hand, the Modi Government at the Centre has increased excise duty four times in last couple of months, while on the other hand, Shivraj Government in the State increased the VAT from 27 per cent to 31 per cent and are cheating the people of the State, he added.

The senior Congress leader said it is clear that during Congress regime the people were not burdened with the increasing crude oil prices but the benefit of falling prices was extended to them, whereas in BJP rule, the Government is busy filing its treasury without caring for the people.
