A comedy play ‘Bhaag Avanti Bhaag’ was staged at Shaheed Bhavan here on Monday marking the first day of 13th Bhopal Rang Mahotsav.

Directed by Rajeev Verma, the play was performed by the artists of Bhopal Theatre Group. The play is adapted from a Marathi comedy play whose Hindi translation and conceptualization is done by Praveen Muhavale. Reeta Verma was seen as the mother of the protagonist and Praveen essayed the role of her father.

In a society where parents take daughter’s wedding as a status symbol, these parents have permitted their daughter to leave the traditions and run away.

The play revolves around a middle class family and the trials middle class families go through. Through different scenes and situations, the play was beautifully staged at Ravindra Bhavan. The play was much enjoyed by the Bhopalites. Adding a pinch of comedy, the play wonderfully showcased about the situations of a middle class family. If a member of a middle class family suffers with a disease, then the deposited amount which is earned working hard all through the life is taken in the treatment.

The trouble increases even when the daughter is ready for a marriage and there is no money to get her married. Then what happens next formed rest of the story making the situations worse as well as comic. In this situation the parents think that if the girl runs away with someone, then they will be saved from the marriage expenses.

The extremely energetic performances by the artists made the play watching worthwhile. Besides, the use of stage backdrop and the mature direction by Rajeev Verma was also commendable.
