CM to campaign for Sagar mayor OP Shilpi on Jan 4

Staff Reporter

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) mayoral candidate from Sagar OP Shilpi on January 4. Prestige of Panchayat and Rural development minister Gopal Bhargava and his son Abhishek is at stake in this otherwise cold election. Abhishek is the state vice president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and this would be the acid test for his abilities.

The ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh and opposition Congress are in direct fight for the by-election for Mayor of Sagar Municipal Corporation that has been necessitated as the election of Kamla Bai an eunuch, was set aside by the Jabalpur High Court (HC) for submitting wrong information about her caste.  The HC had declared the election held in 2009 null and void.

The BJP in order to avoid any kind of risk is taking shelter in chief minister’s popularity and has decided to romp in for this election. Preparations for Chouhan’s public meetings on January 4 are at full swing.

Both BJP and the Congress have fielded new candidates in the by-election of Municipal Corporation taking place just after the assembly elections of the state. The BJP candidate is OP Shilpi while the Congress has fielded Indu Chowdhry who is daughter of retired DGP of Chhattisgarh.

The Congress candidate was preparing for the election since last six months while the BJP in order make its

candidate victorious constituted a committee and united all the big leaders of the district under it.

BJP state organisational general secretary Arvind Menon has already taken a meeting in Sagar for preparing the strategy to win this election. BJP has made Gopal Bhargav as the election in-charge while BJYM has imposed responsibility to his son BJYM state vice president Abhishek Bhargava. The father-son are in the field to save their reputation.
