Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan paid tribute by garlanding the portrait of Veerangana Avanti Bai Lodhi on her death anniversary on Monday. Chouhan also remembered her contribution.

Rani Avantibai Lodhi was active in the revolution of the year 1857 and became the leader of the liberation movement in Rewanchal. She fought continuously with the British. The British had to bow down before her courage, due to which the state of Mandla and Ramgarh became independent. The British sent forces from Nagpur towards Ramgarh. Rani Avantibai's army was much smaller than the British army.

The British army surrounded Rani Avantibai from all sides who stayed on the front. Compelled Rani sacrificed her life by stabbing a dagger in her chest.

She chose the honourable option instead of dying at the hands of the British. Rani Avantibai did the work of lighting the flame of independence by sacrificing herself for the protection of her subjects. The Central Government also issued a postal stamp on March 20, 1988, in the memory of Veerangana Rani Avantibai.
