Chouhan Govt in a fix?

Zafar Alam Khan

The Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP Government of Madhya Pradesh is facing a problem of another kind since the formation of the saffron party Government at the Centre that now whom to blame for its shortcomings and failures. Earlier, the Chouhan Government used to blame the Congress-led UPA Government of the Centre for its shortcomings and failures.

Since the formation of the Narendra Modi-led BJP Government in New Delhi, the Chouhan Government is concerned that now what would it do to cover up its shortcomings and failures. The glimpses of the State Government and party organisation's concern were witnessed during the State executive meet of the BJP held here on Saturday at the party's State headquarter Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Bhawan.

The newly-appointed State president of the BJP Nandkumar Singh Chouhan expressed his concern over the issue in the State executive and told the party office bearers and elected representatives to execute their duty with more responsibility.

Chouhan, before apprising the State executive with this new concern of State leadership, said, "We need to work now with more thrust as now we are in power both in State and at the Centre and now we could not cover up our shortcomings in name of Centre Government failures."

Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thanwarchand Gehlot extended full support to Chouhan. "Our responsibility has increased manyfolds as we are in Government at both the State and the Centre. If we would get the credit for the success of program than we would also be blamed for the failures, that are why now we need to move steadily and try to execute responsibilities more dutifully," Gehlot added.

Notably, during the UPA rule at centre the Chouhan government of the state used to hold it responsible for bad condition of national highways passing through the state, for not making adequate coal supply for the thermal power plants of the state and not providing adequate compensation after the natural calamities. The chief minister on many occasions alleged that the centre was adopting step motherly treatment with the state and even sat on sit-in against the centre in Bhopal to register his protest against the Centre's alleged indifference towards his Government.
