Chouhan conducts a 'public referendum'

In a matching measure to counter  the mounting pressure being put on him to resign for his alleged involvement in the infamous Vyapam scam, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has sought to go to the people’s court by seeking a public referendum on the raging demand.

Chouhan, addressing the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers in Chandra Shekhar Azad Nagar (formerly Bhabhra, the birth place of revolutionary leader Chandra Shekhar Azad) in Alirajpur district of the State on Thursday, said, “The issueless Congress party seeks my resignation morning, noon and evening, for me you people are most important and that is why I am asking you, brothers tell me should I resignIJ”

The reply from the crowd was a big no. Chouhan further said, “I didn’t hear you, please be louder … tell me brothers, should I resign over Congress allegations, do you have faith in meIJ”

The people’s response was the same, a big no. The Chief Minister then said it is Ok, I got your message and support and now together would we deal with the Congress and its general secretary Digvijay Singh and would expose their lies.

However, it is the court that after CBI investigation would decide whether or not a case against Chouhan or any other BJP and RSS leaders could be registered but Shivraj copying the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) style of seeking referendum from people does not go well with his opponents.

AAP Madhya Pradesh spokesman Akshay Hunka while talking to The Pioneer said, “This is pure nautanki by the Chief Minister, if he has to take people’s referendum than why only before the gathering of his party workers and only in Bhabhra, why not the referendum be taken Statewide.”

Hunka further said that Chouhan could copy AAP style but from where would he bring honesty. First he would do scams and then would he go to the people asking that whether these scams be tried in court or not, this is pity and big joke of democracy, he added.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said, “This is one more way of confusing people, Chief Minister is seeking referendum from his party workers and presenting it before the people as referendum of the people. These tricks would not work now as Chouhan stands exposed before the country. If he wants referendum he should dare to go before the people of the State and not before his party workers than only would he come to know what people of the State wantIJ”
