As the Bhopalites are preparing for the Diwali celebration to be observed here on Thursday, the markets are flooded with various decoration items. Especially the Made in China items are much in demand this season.

This Diwali, it seems like Chinese goods have taken over the market and is attracting huge crowd with the various items available at lower cost, benefiting the shop vendors as well as the buyers.

Notably, from earthen lamps to torans and from traditional bandhwars to electrical lighting lanterns the Chinese versions of all these items are available at the market. Across the city people are buying these items on Diwali in huge number.

But, not only the home decoration items, but show pieces, creepers, plastic fruits and even flowers are also available in Chinese versions.

One of the shopkeepers, Rajesh at Chowk Market while talking to The Pioneer said, “We buy these Chinese made items from wholesale market at very low cost and sell it by adjusting it with our profit.

Moreover, the buyers find them easy to buy as comparatively these items are cheaper than India made items.” Elaborating further, he said, “Even India made items are also available at my shop, but if compared, people are more inclined towards the Chinese made items as it appears cheaper to them and fit in their budget.” So according to the shopkeepers, the Made in China items appear to be profitable for them as far as Diwali is concerned.

This is not all but; the road side stall shopkeepers are also selling local items with the tag of Made in China to uplift the value of the item.

Another shopkeeper said that the Indian decorative lights are costly for them to buy and so they also sell it at costlier price to cut off their profit, hence most of the shopkeepers and buyers are opting for cheaper plastic made Chinese versions.

The Made in China lights have arrived in various varieties. From multi coloured lights to small lanterns. These versions are available at different ranges costing from `20 to `500.

Moreover, people are also inclined towards the aromatic candles available in the market. The craze for the earthen lamps has been overshadowed by these China-made perfumed candles. Available in various colours and beautifully packed, these candles have fantasized the buyers this Diwali.

A buyer Radhika said, “Well, these items are all in trend and also they beautify the home decor fantastically. They have a short life but fits in budget and so this makes a good buy.”
