Objecting to anti-encroachment drive of the district administration, the aggrieved residents and businessmen of Chawni locality here on Wednesday demanded a proper compensation for the dismantling of their legal structures on the main Chawni road.
Sharing their pains with the mediapersons, the businessmen while describing the district administration’s action as unjustified, said the administration in the name of widening of main Chawni road, had not removed encroachments by demolishing their legal structures but in fact has acquired their residential and business premises’ space in the name of widening of the road as they had due legal and valid documents of their current premises.
This calls for a proper compensation which should be essentially given to us by the district administration. The businessmen said the Chawni area was set up in 1820 to provide residential accommodation to the people from Parsi community after development of residency area by the British. Between 1825-30, the main Chawni Bazaar was constructed and all those whose residential and business premises fall on this road have valid legal documents of their property.
While describing the district administration’s move to demolish residential and business premises for the widening of Chawni road as unjustified, advocate Vishnuprasad Dikshit demanded a compensation of 80% of the total cost of residential and business premises demolished by the administration for the widening of Chawni road. He said after demolition works at main Chawni road, the administration is contemplating demolition of structures on road between GPO to Sarwate bus stand to widen the existing road and we will move court against administration’s demolition drive.
