Chaos at fertilizer distribution: hundreds injured

Staff Reporter
Hundreds of agitating farmers were injured after the police used force to disperse them at Ambha in Morena district during fertilizer distribution where farmers created chaotic scenes on Tuesday. On Monday fertilizer distribution was started at Ambha police station for farmers who were provided receipt on December 12, but several other farmers without receipts poured in and created ruckus which forced the police to cane-charge them. The farmers waiting in queue started fighting with those who had reached without receipts and pelted stones.

Notably, shortage of fertilizers across the State has worsened and forced the farmers to stage protest and loot trucks loaded with fertilizers. Farmers of Vidisha, Seronj, Guna and Rajgarh staged protest against the shortage of fertilizers on Tuesday. Sagar Bhopal highway was blocked by farmers who organised a rally near over bridge at Sagar- Bhopal road.

Huge bee lines of vehicles were witnessed after the block which lasted for about an hour Tehsil road of Seronj was blocked by farmers. Same scenes were witnessed at AB road in Guna where farmers staged protest after stock of fertilizer ended at Nanakhedi Galla Mandi on Monday. The protestors were dispersed after police used mild force.

Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Minister Gaurishankar Bisen said that the state has received less fertilizer for the past three months which has resulted in the current shortage scenario and recently Central Government has instructed to release the backlog quota which will improve the situation. With the release of the back log quota the state would receive additional 1 lakh metric tones of fertilizer.
