Change in State Congress leadership in the offing?

SR

Speculations about change of leadership in Madhya Pradesh Congress are rife in the political circles of the State. The speculations seem imminent as the party leadership on Thursday made changes in Chhattisgarh and Delhi State units.

Would Kantilal Bhuria remain as chief of the state Congress till general elections or would be axedIJ Congress circles in the State are agog with this discussion especially with change in leadership in Chhattisgarh and Delhi. Sources in the Congress informed that change in Madhya Pradesh unit is imminent as the brainstorming over the issue has been started in party. Assumptions have started over the name that would replace Bhuria.

Though one faction of the senior party leaders are of the view that Bhuria should be allowed to continue till parliament elections scheduled next year and any decision for change of leadership should be shelved at this point of time.  Reasons attributed in support of this view are that first Bhuria is Tribal and second that no powerful leader from the State is ready to accept this responsibility. Those opposed to the idea are raising the point that there is no substance in the point that Bhuria comes from Tribal community as he failed miserably to save his fort in the recently held Assembly elections.

Sources in the State Congress informed that no powerful leader of the State is ready to struggle on roads for five years as the party high command wished to appoint new State president keeping in mind the 2018 Assembly election of the State so that leader could be projected as the chief minister. The other reason to avoid this responsibility is the general elections, as the new president would not like to take the responsibility of likely poor performance in general election into his credit.

If the party makes criteria of not making State president to those parliamentarians in whose constituencies the performed poorly in the assembly elections than many MPs would automatically run out of the race for new State president leaving union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, former leader of opposition in State assembly Ajay Singh, younger brother of former state chief minister and now Congress general secretary laxman Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Vijaylaxmi Sadho and former minister Arif Aqueel in the race for the new State chief.
