Caste politics makes Bihar poor: Chouhan

Staff Reporter

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that despite being prosperous, Bihar State is gripped by caste politics. Referring to Champaran district's history, Chouhan said that Mahatma Gandhi had started indigo movement from here and waged a struggle against the Britishers in the interest of farmers. Remembering Mahatma Gandhi, Chouhan lamented that now the crop of caste politics is growing where crops of indigo grew.

He said that a Narendra Modi Government at the Centre and a BJP Chief Minister in Bihar will end caste politics in Bihar. Chouhan addressed election meetings in West Champaran and East Champaran in Bihar on Friday.

Chouhan said that Bihar's farmers have a soil which can grow gold, but they are economically weak. In such circumstances, there is no way out but to make agriculture profitable. Giving the example of Madhya Pradesh, he said that near-impossible work of linking Narmada river with Kshipra river for irrigating farmers' fields has been accomplished in the state. Why such a work cannot be done in BiharIJ He said that in the interest of farmers, Madhya Pradesh government has provided them interest-free loans.

Additional bonus has been given on procurement of wheat, rice and maize. In Bihar also, sugarcane producing farmers should be given additional bonus.Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that leaders of the Congress and other political parties only seek votes and make mere promises while the BJP does concrete work. The Congress has destroyed the country to the extent that the prestige of even Prime Minister's office has been razed to dust. Rupee has been devalued. The country's image has been tarnished in the world. He said that Bihar has been rich in religious, cultural and academic heritage, but politics prevailing here has made it backward.

He said that Bihar's youths are talented, but are not provided educational facilities. Giving example, he said that if Madhya Pradesh government can easily provide facilities like scholarships, free books and hostels, why this cannot be possible in BiharIJChouhan said that Congress has been raising slogans about removal of poverty, but it has exorbitantly increased prices of essential commodities. Congress rule has seen a surge of scams. The time has come for the people to disconnect from the Congress, he said.
