A 25-year-old woman caretaker of a Government-recognised shelter home here was sent to jail on Wednesday. She was booked for allegedly getting private parts of a five-year-old girl singed for bed-wetting.Bajriya police station case investigating officer PN Tiwari said after recording the statement of the occupants, and medical examination of the girl, the caretaker Kalavati Singh (25) was booked under relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act and 324 (voluntary causing hurt) of IPC on Tuesday.

In a related development, a three-member team comprising Rekha Shridhar, a member of district child welfare committee, Anurag Joshi, District Women Empowerment Officer and Archana Sahay of NGO Childline visited the shelter home last evening. The team members found that two other inmates of the home had been meted out the same inhuman treatment by a 10-year-old inmate at the behest of the accused, Anurag Joshi told.

Tiwari said the accused was produced in a court and was sent in judicial custody for 15 days today, Tiwari said. Notably, the caretaker of a laadli shelter home in Bajaria area of State capital burnt private parts of five-year-old girl, merely on the complaint that the victim was suffering from bedwetting. The police have registered a case against the caretaker and launched a hunt for her. Instead of taking the girl to the doctor, the caretaker of the 'laadli shelter home' Kalawati burnt the private parts of the girl with candles.
