Capacity of testing forensic samples will increase in MP

Staff Reporter

By the end of this year, the capacity of testing forensic samples will increase in the state. The government has made preparations to start a new lab in Gwalior next month and Bhopal in December. Both the labs will have the capacity to test one hundred samples every month. The capacity of Bhopal Lab will be increased later. A Forensic Science Lab (FSL) will also be started in Jabalpur next year.

Let us inform you that at present one lab each is functioning in Bhopal, Sagar and Indore. In all three, about five hundred samples are being tested every month.

Due to low testing capacity, the testing of more than nine thousand samples is stuck in different labs. Many of these samples are of serious offences. Two hundred and three hundred new samples are coming every month for investigation.

In such a situation, according to the current testing capacity, only about two hundred samples are being tested per month from the pending test samples. With the creation of three more new labs, the testing capacity will double. Earlier, there was a forensic lab only in Sagar in the state. After this it started in Bhopal and Indore.

FSL officials said that due to lack of technical staff, the tests could not be done even after having the capacity of the lab. Provisional arrangements are being made for this. 122 contract researchers will be appointed for the three working labs.

Their qualification will be MSc Chemistry. They are expected to be appointed next month. Along with this, the testing capacity will also increase.
