A National level Brain-storming session for PhD program organized at AIIMS Bhopal under the leadership of Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh. The program was inaugurated by President of AIIMS Bhopal Prof. (Dr.) Y.K. Gupta.
During this full day session, 23 dignitaries from the 12 Institutes of National Importance (INIs) like AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Rajkot, AIIMS Patna, AIIMS Raipur, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, AIIMS Nagpur, AIIMS Jammu, AIIMS Bhatinda, AIIMS Manglagiri, and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) joined various sessions on hybrid mode.
The Directors, Dean (Research), Dean (Academics), Head of the Departments and various faculty members of these institute including AIIMS Bhopal were participated.
Executive Director AIIMS Bhopal Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh emphasized on the need of Clinician or Physician Scientists.
He said that Ph.D. scholar will be better professional to fulfill the need of various Pharma and Instrumentation industries. Our Ph.D. candidate will be recognized on international level as a make in India model. They will also create translation values in Medical Research.
President of AIIMS Bhopal, Prof.(Dr.) Y.K. Gupta mentioned that Ph.D. degree is a highest degree still it is least structured and full of heterogeneity in nature at present. He focused on the availability of funding, guide, students and resources related to research work. He mentioned that Ph.D. program should be précised instead of a lifelong program. The Ph.D. work of students should be critically appraised by their Doctoral Committees.
There is also a need of uniform course work in terms of literature search, biostatistics, GCP, GMP and GLP etc. Such programs must be inter-disciplinary, inter-institution, industry partnership based or international collaboration. Psychological aspect of Ph.D. students also need to be touched by counseling, motivation and encouragement. Ph.D. work should also be high impact publication focused. He also emphasized on special problems of research scholars like plagiarism, selection of topic, translation values etc.
Prof. Debasis Biswas, Prof. Amit Agarwal, Dr. Shashank Purwar, Dr. Saikat Das and Prof. Rajesh Malik presented different issues related to Ph.D. like Ph.D. Grants, eligibility, nomenclature, MD-Ph.D. degree, assessment mechanism etc. President of AIIMS Bhopal, Prof.(Dr.) Y.K. Gupta and Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh gone through the full day discussion with invitees and framed new policy for Ph.D. program at AIIMS Bhopal.
Dean Research Prof. Debasis Biswas, Dean academic Prof. Dr. Rajesh Malik, Medical Superintendent Prof. (Dr.) Manisha Shrivastava,Registrar Dr. Shashank Purwar, Associate Dean academic Dr. Ashvani Tandon,Head of the departments and faculty members of AIIMS Bhopal were present during this program. Dr. Bhavana Sharma, Head of Department ophthalmology gave the vote of thanks at the end of program.
