A Hindi play ‘Box’ was staged here on Wednesday at Antrang Hall, Bharat Bhavan. The play was staged on the sixth day of the 10-day theatre festival being conducted by Ragadhaar Theatre Group, Bhopal.

“There is no such message in the play ‘Box’, but it is like getting face to face with one’s individuality,” said the director of the play Manoj Nair.

The play tells the story of people who live in their limited world and react to different situations accordingly. Written and Directed by Manoj Nair, this was the opening show of the play presented by Shadow Group, Bhopal.

It is a compilation of three short stories narrating the life of three different people. Use of strong narration by four female artists added more zeal in the presentation. It focuses on the fact that every individual needs to face hurdles in life to reach the destination.

The play begins with showing Yamraj taking away the life of a man and the man is pulling up his box along. This represents that even after death man does not leave his originality behind. The first short story is all about childhood that shows that nowadays children are ruled by technology and competition. They are not able to enjoy the childhood, but are always busy in competing with one another.

The second story is a light hearted comedy and a satire over people who speak a lot and show-off as if they know everything. This story is about a character Sharmaji who likes to show-off, but he does not have anything. The last story is about a flute player who plays the flute brilliantly, but when he gets a better job he leaves his passion behind and moves forward.

While talking to The Pioneer, director of the play Manoj Nair said, “It is said ‘Come Out Of Your Box’ and through this play we have tried to show different boxes which have kept people contracted in themselves. The boxes are Magical box, Dream box and Narrow box.” He further said that it is a simple script yet interesting as it is a new improvisation by Shadow group.

The backdrop of the play was kept simple. The audiences could watch boxes everywhere in the form of chess board, snakes & ladder and ludo. The lighting and music was kept mild that added more enchantments in the performance. The play was a delightful experience for the theatre-goers.
