BJP questions Cong's role in oil for food scam

Staff Reporter

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has questioned the Congress’ role in the infamous oil-for-food scam with Iraq in which the then Union Minister and Congress leader Natwar Singh was non-contracted beneficiary.

Madhya Pradesh BJP Mahila Morcha president lata Wankhede in a statement here on Monday said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi took action against Singh by first taking his resignation as the Union Minister and later expelled him from the party only because he was non-contracted beneficiary. “What action Gandhi took against the party that was also non contracted beneficiary. Was the Congress’ culture not exposed by this episodeIJ” she questioned.

Wankhede further said that the way Singh had targeted Gandhi family in his recently released book has hurt the Congress president. She also said that Singh has wished to write another book that would for sure reveal more layers of the Congress.

She said that Singh was the External Affairs Minister in the erstwhile UPA Government and was removed from the post because of his involvement in the oil for food scam. The reason for his removal was stated that he was involved in the scam and was non contracted beneficiary in the scam. The Congress took the step to remove Singh from the Union Cabinet after the Paul Walker report got public just to prove that it has nothing to do with the scam, she added.

She said if Singh was non contracted beneficiary and was punished than the Congress was also non contracted beneficiary.

The BJP leader said that Singh’s book has exposed the Congress’s culture and whatever little is hidden would be exposed in Gandhi’s book.
