Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Ambrish Sharma reportedly came to the rescue of a young man in Bhind district’s Lahar on Thursday when he was surrounded by a group of masked men armed with sticks and lathis. The dramatic incident, which was captured on video and went viral on Friday, unfolded as Sharma was passing through the area.

The victim, Yuvraj Singh Rajawat, a resident of Lahar, was driving with his family towards Bhind city when a vehicle overtook him near Rawatpura Sani Mod and forced him to stop. A group of masked men emerged from the vehicle, dragging Rajawat out of his car, hurling abuses, and preparing for an altercation.

At that moment, Lahar MLA Ambrish Sharma, who was passing by, instructed his driver to stop. Sharma then confronted the group and, in a bid to protect Rajawat, pulled out a rifle from his vehicle. Upon seeing the weapon, the masked men retreated to their car and fled the scene.

While talking to mediapersons, Sharma said, “That was my rifle; I often travel with it. There is no law and order issue in my constituency. While crime incidents were prevalent in the past due to the area’s proximity to Uttar Pradesh, the situation has drastically improved now.”

Sharma, who became the Lahar MLA in 2023, had defeated the Congress’s seven-term legislator Govind Singh by a margin of 11,397 votes.

According to police, the masked men were allegedly targeting Rajawat over a financial dispute, as he owed them money. Rajawat also claimed that the same group had attempted to kidnap him earlier in January 2025.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and a case has been registered in connection with the attempted assault on Rajawat.
