The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that the Congress party has always made farmers a political façade and never made efforts for progress of farmers and agriculture. BJP State organisational general secretary Arvind Menon in a statement on Tuesday, said, “lie does not have any age, the way the Congress picked up an opposition flag against land Acquisition Bill and it was expecting support over it from its allies seems falling out from that.”
Menon said that as per the Article 4 of the Constitution, the Congress under cover of 13 different laws passed the land Acquisition Bill 2013 in that there were provisions of acquiring farmers land without their consent and proper compensation. Those parties, who supported Congress at that time, have now distanced themselves from it due to those provisions, he added.
He said the fact is the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government at the Centre has proposed new provisions to provide protection to farmers through such laws where land of farmers is acquired. The new provisions in the land Acquisition Bill are attracting parties like Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Janata Dal-United (JD(U)) and they are getting ready to support the bill with some revisions. Congress stands exposed, he added.
He said that the Congress party has always made farmers a political façade and never made efforts for progress of farmers and agriculture. The first Prime Minister of the independent India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru continued with the land acquisition law formed in 1894. The revision done by Indira Gandhi in this law snatched away the right of challenging from the hands of farmers. Her son Sanjay Gandhi made thousands of farmers landless by snatching their land for establishing Maruti unit. In the first tenure of the UPA, 533 SEZs were approved on the directives of Rahul Gandhi in the cover of that thousands of acre of farmers land was handed over to corporate houses at throwaway prices, he added.
