Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president and MP Nandkumar Singh Chouhan said that it is a unique co-incidence that there are pro-farmer Governments in both State and the Centre.

While Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is making efforts towards

making agriculture a profit making business, Prime Minister Narendra Modi by launching farm irrigation scheme (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sinchai Yojana) resolved to make agriculture a boon, he said.

Chouhan while concluding the State executive of farmers cell of the party here on Thursday at party’s State headquarters in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Bhawan further said, “In the coming days Indian agriculture would reach on new horizons of progress and the farmers would become prosperous. The happiness of the country and the society depends on the prosperity of the farmers.”

He said that the farmers’ cell workers and officer bearers should make people aware with the achievements of the State Government. During the past ten years historic works have been done for the betterment of the farmers and the people have move ahead on the path of prosperity, he added.

He said that Madhya Pradesh is the only State that provides crop loans at zero per cent interest. The Congress since independence overburdened the farmers in loans by charging 18 per cent interest on loans. When the NDA Government headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee was formed at the Centre then only the Central Government for the first time had concern over the issue and started to reduce the interest rate that has now come down to zero per cent in Madhya Pradesh, he added.

The BJP State president said that to reduce debt burden of farmers is the major concern of the BJP and its commitment towards farmers. This should be brought in the knowledge of masses and the topic should be made a matter of discussion in the choupals, he added.
