On the second day of the two-day theatre fest, a play on the life of Socrates was presented.

Directed by one of the noted theatre director of the city, Manoj Nair, the play was performed brilliantly by the artists of Shadow Group, Bhopal. The play was staged at IES college auditorium here on Wednesday.

The play surrounds the life and death of one of the greatest philosopher of Greek’s history Socrates. Socrates was an enigma, an inscrutable individual who, despite having written nothing, is considered one of the philosophers who forever changed how philosophy itself was to be conceived.

He was sentenced to death for corrupting the youth and introducing new gods. He was sentenced to die by drinking a poison hemlock and was a lesson for coming generations, as per the story.

The play was presented wondrously on stage. The use of mime and other expressive theatre forms added much colours to the presentation. The artists were in black costumes and here enters Socrates on stage telling his story to the audience.  The use of music was the most important factor of this play. Also the light design and the movements, the acting skills all of the artists was next to perfect in the play. It was a delightful presentation as a conclusion of the theatre fest.

Talking about the play, Manoj Nair said, “We have experimented with Socrates for the first time. So we have manipulated the death scene somehow making it more impactful.” Moreover, many rehearsals were made before the final staging of this play.

Notably, the fest was

organised to give a tribute to one of the theatre artists Santosh Choubey.
