In a well-planned scheme to make quick money, Nishatpura police in Bhopal arrested Zakir Khan, a resident of Kohefiza, on Friday night for circulating counterfeit currency. Posing as a Swiggy delivery boy, Khan used fake Rs 50 and Rs 100 notes to carry out his illegal transactions. The small denominations allowed him to avoid suspicion, making it easier for him to pass off the counterfeit currency in everyday transactions.
Khan's luck ran out when he attempted to flee from a routine vehicle check in Housing Board Colony. Officers, suspicious of his actions, apprehended him and found counterfeit notes in his possession.
During questioning, Khan confessed to printing the fake currency at his home using a computer and printer. A subsequent raid by the police on Saturday morning led to the recovery of 72 counterfeit Rs 100 notes, 59 fake Rs 50 notes, and the printing equipment used to produce them.
Sub Inspector Ahirwar, involved in the investigation, stated that Khan had circulated approximately Rs 40,000 in counterfeit currency over the past six months. Khan’s strategy of printing only small-denomination notes helped him avoid detection in routine market transactions.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Richa Jain confirmed that an FIR has been filed, and the investigation is ongoing. The police are also probing whether Khan was involved in selling the counterfeit notes to others.
