Bhopal panchayat head absent from BJP leaders' meet

Staff Reporter

The newly-elected Bhopal district panchayat chairman Manmohan Nagar, who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a high voltage drama last week, remained absent from the meeting of BJP leaders at the State BJP office on Monday. The party had convened a meeting of the party’s newly elected chairmen and deputy chairmen of the district Panchayats on Monday. Nagar was the only elected representative, who remained absent from the meeting.

Taking this seriously, State BJP president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan advised them to remain cautious against the timeservers, as they would not only play spoilsport, but also create problems at every step. Notably, the high-voltage drama of Nagar’s affiliation to BJP and Congress had charged the local politics. Soon after having received the victory certificate, when he came out of the district Panchayat office, he was forcibly taken in a vehicle by the BJP workers.

At the BJP office, he had garlanded the busts of late party leaders and stated that he was in the BJP. However, as soon as he came out of the BJP office, the Congress leaders caught hold of him and took to the State Congress headquarters, where he alleged that he was bashed up by BJP legislators. He claimed that he was in Congress and would always remain there.

However, within 24 hours, he again appeared at the BJP office and told that he had joined the BJP before Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan two days ago. While addressing the representatives, State organisational general secretary Arvind Menon said that it was a matter of pride that among the newly elected people’s representatives, 20 are postgraduates, nine are graduate and 12 have technical education.
