Staff Reporter

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) management is setting up a 5 MW solar plant by spending about Rs 20 crore on its vacant land located in Subhash Nagar. This solar plant is the largest plant in the capital. The solar plant will generate 80 lakh kilowatts of electricity in a year. This will save Rs 5 crore in a year.

Not only this, the houses of 12 thousand families of BHEL township can also be illuminated by this electricity. At present, BHEL buys the required power from the power company. After installation of solar plant, BHEL will not need to buy power from outside.

BHEL Bangalore unit is helping in setting up the solar plant. All the equipment for the solar plant is being made in BHEL itself. 150 people will also get employment due to the formation of solar plant. At present, work is being done to build a solar plant on 6 acres of land with new technology. The entire plant will be built on 25 acres, the land on which the solar plant is being built was earlier illegally occupied. After removing these illegal occupations, now the solar plant is being built here.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) devised the first to plan to set up a 10 MW solar plant at the Jamboree ground. Permission was being taken at every level regarding this.

But the state government did not give permission to set up a solar plant in the Jamboree ground. After this BHEL had to plan afresh.

It is understood that the state government had objected to the setting up of the solar plant in Jamboree Maidan at a cost of Rs 58 crores in 50 acres as the programmes of the Prime Minister and other VVIPs are held at the Jamboree Maidan from time to time. Since then BHEL went ahead with the plan to set up a five MW solar plant in Subhash Nagar.
