BHEl makes SAS for coal plants

Staff Reporter

BHEl Bhopal has for the first time engineered, manufactured and supplied Substation Automation System (SAS) along with Control and Protection System of 400/132KV Switchyard for 2x600 MW coal-based thermal power plant of M/s Singareni Collieries Company limited M/s NTPC.

Unit-1 of 2x600 MW Singareni was synchronised successfully and brought to full load recently on March 13. Power was evacuated through 400/132KV Switchyard. This switchyard is controlled and protected by Substation Automation System supplied by BHEl Bhopal.

Substation Automation System (SAS) consists of control and protection intelligent electronic devices (IED’s) mounted on panels, located in AC Kiosks in the switchyard. These IED’s are networked through Fiber optic and Ethernet cables to control room and hooked up to Human Interface PC’s (HMI).  Operator sitting in the control room is capable of controlling and monitoring each and every point in the yard including transmission lines, transformers, reactors, breakers, isolators etc from these HMI.

Substation Automation System (SAS) offers following features which is the requirement on new era substations — Control of Substation of all electrical point from one central location, Monitoring of all substation electrical parameters from one central location, Control of bay equipment locally from the Bay Control Unit mounted in AC Kiosk, Interface to remote load dispatch centers and plant DCS system.

On this occasion MS Kinra, General Manager, SCR congratulated the whole team for their constant efforts in adding a new feather to BHEl.
