Staff Reporter

Katni town remained under bandh on Wednesday on social groups’ call against State Government’s decision to transfer the SP.

Gaurav Tiwari, a 2010 batch IPS officer had been investigating suspicious deposits in private banks in Katni after the demonetisation announcement and had fallen foul of the political establishment in the process.

A large number of people had on Tuesday hit the streets in Katni to protest against the abrupt transfer of SP Gaurav Tiwari on Monday.

A total bandh was observed in the town; business establishments were closed willingly by the business community in support of the call.

On Tuesday, a large number of people protested former SP's transfer by closing down their shops and other business establishments and taking to the streets.

On Monday, the state government had transferred Katni SP Gaurav Tiwari to Chhindwara in the same capacity.

Meanwhile, sensing an opportunity, the Congress too has jumped into the fray demanding the cancellation of the transfer orders. State Congress President Arun Yadav has written to the union Finance Minister demanding that the officer who was looking into suspicious cash deposits be brought back to Katni.

Bahoriband MlA of Congress also threatened for agitation on the issue. State Congress raised fingers against minister for MSME Sanjay Pathak for Tiwari’s ouster. Congress chief spokesperson KK Mishra even demanded PM Narendra Modi to intervene as this was a case related to demonetisation, he said.

FB and whatsapp users posted messages in Tiwari’s favour and spread the call for Wednesday’s bandh. Netizens posted on his FB wall expressing solidarity with him.

Social media also remained abuzz in MP with the news and users questioning the rationale of posting Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s former security officer Shahsikant Shukla in place of Tiwari.

Gaurav Tiwari however left Katni on Monday itself after handing over charge to the Additional SP.

The IPS officer did not express much after his transfer but poured his heart out on his whatsapp status this morning. “God give us men...Men whom spoils of office can’t buy...men who possess opinions and will....” the officer posted.
