A situational comedy play ‘Apne Apne Daon’ was staged at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan here on Thursday. The play was performed marking the fifth day of the theatre festival Rang Ekagra.

This is a situational comedy that entertains the audience and makes them roar with laughter. It is for this reason that the play has been staged by hundreds of theater groups all over the country and also in some foreign countries during the last 50 years. Written by Daya Prakash Sinha, the play was directed by Viren Basoya and was beautifully presented by the artists of Awara Theatre, Mumbai. The play is based on a folk story, wherein there is an old, widowed Bua ji (father's sister) who possesses a mysterious box.

There is a family in Uttar Pradesh. Bua Daadi comes from a very rich family but her husband loses all his money in gambling but somehow Bua Dadi manages to hide the box. After the death of her husband, her nephew brings her home. But, no one knows what she has in her box, but everyone in the host family is under the impression that there are golden biscuits in it. Rivalry ensues amongst all the members of the host family to gain the old lady's favor to inherit her treasures.

Plans are made to foil the plans of others; conspiracies are hatched; intrigues are resorted to; near and dear ones are let down; emotional flareups heat up the scene.

Now the story revolves around the box which is underneath Bua Daadi's bed. So everyone tries to please her. Someone brings rasgullas for her, someone brings butter for her.
